BRUNSWICK POLICE said a 2005 Subaru station wagon struck a building at 8 Mason St. while pulling into a parking space at Midcoast Eye Associates.
Police say the driver of a car that struck a Mason Street office building Monday accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal while attempting to park.

Brunswick police Sgt. Russ Wrede said Carol Frucht, 85, of Topsham, was pulling a 2005 Subaru station wagon into a parking space at Midcoast Eye Associates, 8 Mason St., with her husband, David Frucht, 90.

As she was pulling in, Wrede said Frucht stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, launching the car into the side of the building. The car hit a bicycle chained to the side of the building and would have driven into the building if it hadn’t hit a load-bearing wall stopping it, Wrede said. Police were called to the scene at 2:31 p.m.

David Frucht sustained a cut on his arm but no one else was hurt as a result of the crash. Wrede said the outside of the building was damaged as was the inside, where a wall was cracked from floor to ceiling.

No charges were filed.
