OLD ORCHARD BEACH – A recount has confirmed the result of a recall vote on one Old Orchard Beach town councilor.

Michael Coleman requested the recount after he was removed from office by a margin of 11 votes on June 11. In a recount Thursday at Old Orchard Beach High School, that margin widened to 19 votes.

Coleman was among six town councilors who were removed from office after months of political tension and bickering stemming from the termination of the town manager’s contract. Only one councilor, Bob Quinn, survived last week’s recall vote.

Coleman said the recount showed he was removed from office by a vote of 1,082 to 1,063.

“The important thing is, everyone can be confident this captured the absolute will of the voters,” Coleman said after the recount. “I’m confident on June 11 the will of the voters was to make change. We got the reset in town politics many of us were seeking.”

Kenny Blow, who was elected to replace Coleman, was sworn into office Monday.

Still pending is a lawsuit filed against the town by former Town Manager Mark Pearson.

Pearson’s attorney, John Richardson, said Thursday that he agreed to give the town more time to respond to the lawsuit so town attorneys can meet first with the new Town Council.
