Chris Paul is staying with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The All-Star point guard agreed to a new deal on the first day free agency opened, agent Leon Rose confirmed.
Paul led the Clippers to their first Pacific Division title last season and his decision to stay is the second big victory for the longtime losers in this offseason, following the signing of Doc Rivers as their new coach.
Paul can earn about $108 million over five years with the Clippers. The deal can’t be signed until July 10, after next season’s salary cap is set.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist has helped turn around the Clippers franchise in two seasons since coming in a trade from the New Orleans Hornets. They made the playoffs in both seasons, advancing to the second round in 2012, and went 56-26 this season, the best record in their history.
WIZARDS: Eric Maynor agreed to a contract with Washington.
Maynor will serve as the backup point guard behind John Wall. Maynor averaged 4.5 points with Oklahoma City and Portland last season.
KNICKS-RAPTORS: New York and Toronto agreed on a deal involving forward Andrea Bargnani, the 2006 No. 1 overall pick.
Toronto will receive Knicks reserves Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and Quentin Richardson, who will be signed and traded. The Knicks are also sending the Raptors a 2016 first-round pick and two second-round picks.
PACERS: On the first official day of Larry Bird’s second reign as president of basketball operations, he reiterated that the top offseason priority is re-signing David West.
He also said the Pacers had extended a qualifying offer to Tyler Hansbrough, a backup forward who was one of their more productive bench players last season. By offering Hansbrough roughly $4.15 million, it makes him a restricted free agent and gives the Pacers the right to match any offer he finds.
PELICANS: New Orleans made an offer to Sacramento restricted free agent guard Tyreke Evans.
Several media outlets reported the deal was for four years and ranging between $40 million and $48 million.
Because he’s a restricted free agent, the Kings will have the opportunity to match any offer.
