PHIPPSBURG — Sidwell Art Gallery is showing new work by gallery owner and artist Felicity Sidwell.

There is an opening reception from 1 to 4 p.m. July 14 at the gallery on Wallace Circle in Westpoint village. The reception will feature music by Pat Colwell, member of the Colwell Brothers and Soul Sensations.

Sidwell’s work, according to her artist statement, reveals her fascination with changing light and the mood of sea, sky and land around her.

“My goal is to convey through plein air and studio work the relationship of light and color to what we perceive and feel about a scene,” she wrote.

A native of England, Sidwell came to the United States in 1971. She moved to the midcoast in 2006.

Her work has been featured in shows at the Chocolate Church Art Gallery in Bath, the Boothbay Region Arts Foundation Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, River Arts gallery in Damariscotta and Harlow Gallery in Hallowell.

She has won numerous awards for her watercolor paintings in Connecticut. She has exhibited at Bethel Arts Junction and at Fine Line Art Gallery in Connecticut, as well as the Eastham Painters Guild in Cape Cod.

For the past 13 years, she has worked almost exclusively in oils.

In 2010, Sidwell opened her gallery at 79 Wallace Circle.
