SOUTH PORTLAND — Ethel Ruth Phillips, 80, of South Portland, died July 5 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

She was born in Portland, a daughter of James and Evangeline Brady Norton, and attended Portland schools.

She married Anthony Phillips on May 18, 1958, and together they raised four daughters.

Phillips worked at Norge Village Laundromat and later at Pratt-Abbott Dry Cleaners, retiring in 1994. To keep herself busy, she did seamstress work for the Maine Correctional Center in Windham as well as for friends, family and neighbors.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1985, as well as by brothers Richard Ward, Frank Brady, Mike “Sonny” Brady and William “Billy” Brady.

She is survived by her daughters Pam Poole, of Long Key, Fla., Cathy Phillips, of Santa Ana, Calif., Patty Phillips, of Windham, and Toni Bailey and her husband Colin, of South Portland; grandsons James, of Lewiston, Jason, of Santa Ana, Calif., and Anthony, of Boston; granddaughters Jacqueline, of Santa Ana, Calif., and Amanda, of South Portland; sister Rose Pierce and her husband Chester Sr., of Hiram; and a brother, Fred Brady.

She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and her dog, Daisy.

The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Hospice of Southern Maine, Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and her home hospice team of Misty, Cindy, Lori and Mary for all their care and support.

A funeral will be held at Tuesday at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, in Portland, followed by burial at Brooklawn Memorial Park, in Portland.
