SACO – Brian Wardwell’s pitching in the first game and Hunter Duncan’s hitting in the second helped Massabesic earn a doubleheader sweep against Fayette-Staples in an American Legion Zone 5 doubleheader Saturday, winning 6-1 and 7-2.

Wardwell tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts in the first game.

In the second game, Duncan hit a two-run double in the first inning.

Caleb Campbell had three hits in the first game for Massabesic.

BONANZA, STAPLES CROSSING SPLIT: Ryan Camire hit a tying sacrifice fly and Xavier Chase followed with the winning single as Bonanza (5-10) rallied in the seventh inning to take a 4-3 victory against Staples Crossing (11-2) in the first game of a doubleheader at Sanford.

Camire threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts and also hit an RBI double.

Staples Crossing rebounded with a six-inning 11-0 victory in Game 2. Noah McDaniel had two doubles, a triple and five RBI, and Deion Stewart struck out eight in a two-hitter.

NOBLE, SACO BAY PT SPLIT: Ben Lawlor hit a three-run homer, leading Saco Bay Physical Therapy to a 6-0 victory against Noble in the second game of a doubleheader at York.

Noble took advantage of a seventh-inning error to grab a 3-2 win in the opener.

WINDHAM SWEEPS ANDY VALLEY: Shawn Francouer had a two-run double in the first inning of the opener and Dennis Meehan went 4 for 4 with four RBI in the second game as Windham (14-2) cruised to a pair of 7-0 victories against visiting Andy Valley (1-12).

Francouer pitched the first five innings to record the win in the opener. Andrew Whiting drove in a pair of runs with a double in the second inning.

Meehan struck out six in five innings to earn the win in the second game.

OA-YARMOUTH, MORRILL POST SPLIT: Nick Whitten pitched a four-hitter and was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run to lead Morrill Post (5-10) to a 4-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at South Portland.

Whitten struck out nine and walked two.

OA-Yarmouth took the first game 13-1 in six innings. Connor Dietrich had two hits, two RBI and three runs. Peter Lamagna and Matt Ingalls combined on a two-hitter.

ANDREWS, MOODY’S SPLIT: Caleb Fraser drove in three runs, Dan Kane drove in two and Nate Smart threw a complete game as Andrews Post (11-2) dealt Moody’s Collision its first loss with an 8-3 victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Gorham.

In Game 2, Eric Komulainen singled to start the eighth inning and came around to score on a wild pitch, giving Moody’s (14-1) a 3-2 win.

Briar Morin’s RBI single helped Moody’s take a 2-0 lead in the first, but Andrews tied it in the sixth on Fraser’s two-run single.

CUMBERLAND SWEEPS FIRST TITLE: Alex McAdoo struck out 12 and walked none while throwing a six-hitter to lead Cumberland (8-3-2) in the first of two 11-2 victories over visiting First Title (2-11).

McAdoo gave up two runs on four hits in the first inning before setting down 18 straight. Pete Stauber had two hits and four RBI.

Stauber tossed a six-hitter in Game 2 and allowed one earned run. Mike Leeman started a five-run first with a solo homer and Jonah Normandeau had two doubles, an RBI and a run.

JUNIOR LEGION

FAIRFIELD 6, STANDISH 2: Jesse Dodge had two hits and two RBI, and Joe Leclair struck out eight in a four-hitter to lead visiting Fairfield Post 14 (15-1) over Standish Post 128 (7-8).

EAGLES 9, POST 86 PATRIOTS 8: Shawn Ramsey pitched five innings of no-hit ball to help Lyman win at home.

SOUTH PORTLAND 14, WESTBROOK 7: Sam Troiano smacked two triples to power South Portland at Westbrook.

Troiano went the distance on the mound for South Portland, which took advantage of eight Westbrook errors.

SCHWARTZ & SCHWARTZ 13, FALMOUTH 11: Mike Thurston had three RBI, including two in a six-run sixth inning, to help Schwartz & Schwartz win at Portland.

Orey Dutton stole home in the sixth for the Deering club.

BRUNO’S 6, CHASE CUSTOM HOMES 5: Bruno’s (10-4) used a five-run sixth inning, capped by Nick Stasum’s RBI, to beat Chase Custom Homes (10-4) at Portland.

Joey Fusco had three hits for Bruno’s.

CAPE ELIZABETH 8, WINDHAM MERCHANTS 2: Matt Dennison’s three-run single capped a five-run third inning to propel Cape Elizabeth at home.

NECBL

BLUE SOX 4, MAINERS 0: Michael Burke struck out 11 in a five-hitter to lead the Holyoke Blue Sox (13-13) past the Sanford Mainers (11-15) at Holyoke, Mass.

Burke lowered his ERA to 0.39 through six starts. Sam Balzano had two singles for Sanford.

FCBL

NASHUA 9, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2: Stephen Sauter, Connor Lyons and Johnny Adams each drove in two runs for the Silver Knights (19-9), who used a seven-run seventh inning to beat the Raging Tide (13-16) at Nashua, N.H.

Shane Bussey and Graham McIntire drove in runs for Old Orchard Beach.
