PORTLAND — Lightning sparked a fire that badly damaged a multi-use building housing a car dealership at 324 Warren Ave. on Wednesday night.

The fire was reported at 11 p.m. and caused substantial damage to the attic and roof, said Deputy Fire Chief Robert Wassick.

The fire caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the building and also damaged several vehicles at Bay City Motors, a car dealership located there.

The department went to a second alarm, ultimately sending 11 pieces of firefighting apparatus.

Firefighters were at the scene until about 2:30 a.m.

Nobody was injured.
