PORTLAND — Helen Edith Churchill, 87, of Portland, died May 30 at the Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Brockton, Mass., on July 28, 1925, the daughter of Mary Martin and Howard L. Churchill. She was a graduate of Deering High School. After graduating with a master’s degree from Mount Holyoke College, she lived in Boston and enjoyed teaching English as a second language for nearly 25 years. Churchill was a member of the Bay Club fitness center well into her 70s, holding the status as the most senior member.

Churchill was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, James ‘Spencer’ Churchill and Howard W. Churchill; her aunt, Marie ‘Amanda’ Janotte; and her longtime companion, William O’Farrell.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Churchill; nephew, William Churchill; great-nephews Lucas Churchill and Samuel Churchill; great-grandniece, Nadia Churchill, and great-grandnephew, Sebastian Churchill.
