HANOVER, N.H. — The police department in Hanover, N.H., has installed a drug return box for anonymous drop-offs of unwanted and expired prescription or non-prescription drugs.

The box is in the lobby of the town’s public safety building.

Police said no questions or requests for identification are made. The drugs are regularly removed from the box by police personnel and properly disposed of.

Accepted items for disposal include prescription medications; patches; over-the-counter medications; vitamins, medication samples; EpiPens; and medications for pets. Liquid medications must be tightly sealed in their original containers.

Items that are not accepted include needles, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, and aerosol cans.
