Hakizimana promoted

Didier Hakizimana, a Westbrook resident, has been promoted to senior accounting manager at CEI Capital Management, LLC, in Portland.

The firm said in a statement that Hakizimana was promoted from accounting specialist and has nearly 10 years accounting experience. He is a certified public accountant and earned a masters degree in management from the University of Turin in Italy and holds a bachelor of science in accounting from the National University of Rwanda.

Charest bon voyage

The breakfast club at Rivers Edge Deli gathered on July 24 for a farewell party for the Florida-bound Phil Charest.

The group enjoyed camaraderie and a buffet breakfast courtesy of Bob Eaton, owner of R.G. Eaton Woodworks, and Mark Gartley, a former Maine secretary of state.

Charest and his wife, Claudette, left Westbrook on July 25 for their home in a gated community in Summerfield, Fla. They have sold their Westbrook property but plan future visits to Westbrook, where they have resided the past 10 years.

Phil Charest, a 1967 graduate of Gorham High School, grew up on his family’s Hereford farm in Gorham and is a former Gorham town councilor.

Claudette Charest worked a number of years in the town clerk’s office in Gorham Town Hall.

They have enjoyed cruises in the past and he said at the sendoff that they plan to travel.

Summer reading carnival

Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., celebrates its summer reading program with a carnival from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The library reports that almost 200 children participated in the program with the theme “How do you do that?” They learned about cooking, science, and needlecrafts, and had a visit from Lucy, the Guinness record-holding smallest working dog. In addition, there was a Lego club and read at least 10 books.

The carnival features a bake walk with bake goods awarded as prizes in games. The kids will earn raffle tickets playing games that will entitle them to chances for some great prizes.

Pretty Girls Sing Soprano in concert

The free series of concerts at Riverbank Park 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays features Pretty Girls Sing Soprano on Aug. 7.

1950 PHS reminder

Portland High School class of 1950 graduates, who now live in Westbrook and Gorham, are reminded that its third annual reunion luncheon will be held 11:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept.10, at DiMillos Floating Restaurant in Portland. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Reservations are requested by Tuesday, Aug 20.
