FAIRFIELD — Police began an investigation Monday into the theft of about $3,000 worth of copper from four Central Maine Power Co. vehicles.
The copper, along with some other small items, was taken from the vehicles after a chain-link fence surrounding the back of the company property on Center Street was cut sometime over the weekend, according to a news release by Chief Tom Gould of the Fairfield police.
Gould said the exact value of the copper lines that were taken still is being investigated, but police estimate it was worth several thousand dollars.
The two vans and two bucket trucks owned by the company were not damaged during the burglary, Gould said.
Company employees called the police around 7:30 a.m. Monday after they noticed the burglaries.
