Have you enjoyed the past few days of weather?  I have to say this is some of the best weather I can remember in early August in a long time. This almost makes up for the rain in June and the humidity and heat in July.

We have one more super day for today before some changes take place at the end of the week.  One of the reasons our weather has been so perfect is thanks to high pressure from Canada.  As the high moves offshore it will allow for warm and humid air to make a run at the region.

A warm front, the dividing line between the cool dry air and the more humid air will push northward tonight and Thursday.  As this happens clouds will increase and showers will ensue.  I think that Thursday morning will turn wet and you will certainly notice more humidity in the air throughout the day.  The showers will tend to diminish in coverage during the day as the warm front moves north.

Later tomorrow a cold front will bring a renewed chance for showers in the afternoon.

On Friday another cold front will cross the region and bring another chance for showers.  This front will be slow to move through so the chance for showers could linger into early Saturday.  As this point, the bulk of Saturday looks to be sunny and warm, but that could change slightly if the front slows further from what is forecast.

Sunday is my pick of the weekend with nearly 100% sunshine, dry air and temperatures in the 70s.   One interesting aspect of temperatures over the next few days is that they will be in the 70s, but the amount of humidity in the air will be quite high Thursday and Friday so it will feel more uncomfortable than the same temperature on Saturday and Sunday.

Tides over the next few days will be high in the late morning to early afternoon.  Sunrise and Sunset are getting closer together and this is our first weekend with the sun going down before 8PM since spring.   With the shorter days, if you have some outdoor activities you want to do after dinner be aware it’s very dark before 8:30.

We will continue to lose over 2 minutes of daylight each day for the next month or so until we end up with just 12 hours of daylight in mid-September.   To me summer seems even shorter when we have a cloudy and wet June like we did this year. Since June is our lightest month when we have a month with so many clouds it takes away from chance to enjoy those long days.

Gardening this week If you have a sunny spot and a good size container, how about planting carrots? Carrots can be successfully grown in containers and you will be surprised how many you will get. One of the most important things is to not over water the soil. Check out the video below showing how I recently planted a container of carrots.
