BRISTOL, Conn. — Despite a 1-3 record in pool play, the Saco Little League team will get to play at least one more game in the New England Regional.

Saco clinched the final spot in the semifinals when Westport, Conn., defeated Newton, Mass., 10-4 in the final game in pool play Wednesday. Saco finished its pool schedule Tuesday.

Saco, which won a head-to-head tiebreaker over Newton (1-3) based on a 12-1 victory in their group-play game Saturday, will face top seeed Westport (4-0) in Thursday’s second semifinal (1, p.m, NESN).

On Sunday night, Westport’s Chad Knight and Max Popken combined on a perfect game in an 8-0 victory against Saco.

No. 2 seed South Burlington, Vt. (3-1) and No. 3 Lincoln, R.I. (3-1) will meet in Thursday’s first semifinal (10 a.m.). The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday and will be televised by ESPN.

The last time a Maine team reached the regional final was in 2005 when Westbrook defeated Cranston West (R.I.) 7-2 to reach the World Series.

Westbrook also made the semifinals last year after a 1-3 record in pool play.
