District Game Warden Steve Allarie this week rescued an eaglet that probably fledged too early and was unable to provide for itself in the wild.

The bird was spotted over the last two weeks walking through yards along the Kennebec River in Hallowell before perching on a picnic table overnight in Hallowell, warranting a call to wildlife law enforcement.

Allarie collected the malnourished raptor after a brief foot chase and canoed the animal across the river to Hallowell, where a volunteer from Avian Haven of Freedom collected it.

After a thorough evaluation, the eaglet is expected to be rehabilitated at Avian Haven before being released back into the wild.
