PORTLAND – Portland’s mayor and the developers of an ambitious, $100 million mixed-used project at Thompson’s Point will hold a news conference Thursday to announce a new tenant for the property.

Mayor Michael Brennan, along with representatives of the Forefront at Thompson’s Point will make what is being billed as “an exciting announcement about a one-of-a-kind performing arts tenant,” the city said in a news release.

“Special guests attending the announcement will provide a spectacular sight,” the release states.

The Forefront at Thompson’s Point is a major redevelopment of the 28-acre industrial site next to the Portland Transportation Center, including an event center, seating 3,500, for Maine Red Claws basketball games, a parking garage, hotel, restaurant and offices.

The project has been approved by the city’s Planning Board, and the City Council agreed to rebate up to $32 million in property taxes to the developers over the next 30 years.

Developers have yet to break ground on the project.
