Southern Maine selects Bergeron to coach men’s, women’s tennis

Aaron Bergeron of Gorham was named the head coach of the University of Southern Maine men’s and women’s tennis teams, replacing Ron Chicoine, who resigned after four seasons.

Bergeron, who will also coach the Gorham High girls’ team, had been the Gorham Middle School head tennis coach and a USM assistant coach since 2012.

MEN’S LACROSSE: Colby College announced the hiring of Jack Sandler as head coach.

Sandler coached at Skidmore College the last eight seasons. His coaching experience also includes a stint as an assistant at Bates, his alma mater.

CROSS COUNTRY: Bethanie Brown, who graduated from Waterville High last spring as the top distance runner in Maine, will attend nationally recognized Iowa State after she was granted her release from the University of Connecticut.

Brown asked to be released from her scholarship 30 days ago after UConn head cross country and assistant track and field coach Andrea Grove-McDonough left to take a similar position at Iowa State.
