BANGOR – Ashley Beaulieu’s overtime shot struck the crossbar and then bounced down just over the goal line, giving St. Joseph’s a 1-0 season-opening women’s soccer victory over Husson at the Husson Classic in Bangor.

Jess Poulin stopped nine shots for the Eagles, while Monks keeper Jaci Lorenzen earned the win with a pair of saves.

Western New England University defeated Maine Maritime Academy 5-0 in the opening game of the tournament.

GORDON 1, USM 0: Hannah Midwinter scored from Jamie Breton nearly eight minutes into overtime, sending the Fighting Scots (2-0) to a win over the Huskies (1-1) at Gorham.

Katie Cobb made nine saves to keep Southern Maine in the game.

Gordon held a 22-8 advantage in shots.

DEAN 1, SMCC 0: Morgan Mencio finally got one by SMCC goalie Sydney Proctor after 101 minutes, giving the Bulldogs a double-overtime win over the Seawolves in an opener at Franklin, Mass.

ROGER WILLIAMS 3, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Scarborough’s Trevor Hoxsie scored twice, leading the Hawks past the Monks (0-1) at Bristol, R.I.

Kyle Shangraw scored for St. Joseph’s.

SMCC 2, DEAN 1: Michael Curtis scored at the 105-minute mark as the Seawolves won their opener in double overtime at Franklin, Mass.

Alex Bedrosian put Dean ahead just 1:08 in, a lead that held up until Nicolas Oram scored for the Seawolves with nine minutes left in regulation.

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. JOSEPH’S 2, EASTERN CONNECTICUT 1: Rachelle Messuri scored 1:36 into overtime to lift the Monks over the Warriors at Mansfield, Conn.

Messuri also scored at 3:12 of the second half, drawing St. Joseph’s even after Brianna Passero’s goal for Eastern Connecticut State with 2:29 left in the first.

USM 3, WHEATON 0: Peyton Dostie had two assists in the first half, then scored an insurance goal in the second, helping the Huskies move to 2-0 with a win over Wheaton (1-1) at Gorham.

Natalie Harkins started the scoring in the fifth minute and Rebecca Pratt tallied at 30:12.
