PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs came out of the cornfield Sunday afternoon for their annual Field of Dreams game at Hadlock Field, to the delight of a sold-out crowd of 7,368.
But the home team could not deliver a win, losing 9-4 to the Trenton Thunder.
Left-handed pitching prospect Henry Owens (3-1) experienced his first loss with the Sea Dogs, although he pitched well enough, allowing three runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight.
Reliever Miguel Celestino was knocked around for five runs in the seventh inning.
Portland got two runs in the fifth inning, on a Michael Almanzar sacrifice fly and a Travis Shaw RBI single.
In the ninth inning, the Sea Dogs scored two more on a Derrik Gibson RBI single and Garin Cecchini walk with bases loaded.
The Sea Dogs play their final game of the season Monday at 1 p.m., at Hadlock Field.
