FALMOUTH — A search for a missing juvenile early Wednesday turned into an unrelated drug bust for Falmouth police.

Officer Jeff Pardue was sent to 128 Longwoods Road to search for the missing teenager when he made contact with Alexander Buchanan, 20, of Falmouth, according to Police Department Lt. John Kilbride.

Kilbride said that due to bail conditions, Buchanan could not possess illegal drugs and could be subjected to random searches.

Buchanan allegedly had 4.5 pounds of marijuana worth $16,000, 5.8 ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms worth $1,800, along with various scheduled narcotics, trafficking material and drug paraphernalia, Kilbride said.

Buchanan was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, three counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release, the lieutenant said.

The teenager that police were originally dispatched to search for turned out to be a runaway, but the juvenile returned home without incident, Kilbride said.

Buchanan was being held at Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
