PORTLAND — A convicted felon from Waterboro who is forbidden from possessing firearms was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court to serve 70 months in prison for violation of a federal guns charge.

Anthony Foglio, 28, who previously had been convicted in Maine of felony theft, aggravated criminal mischief and burglary, sold five rifles that belonged to a family member and then had an acquaintance purchase three handguns for him all in late May 2012, according to court records.

Foglio was present at each of the sales and was present when his acquaintance purchased the handguns – a Taurus .38 revolver, a Taurus .40 pistol and a Ruger 9mm pistol – from licensed firearms dealers in Maine, according to documents filed by he U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Law enforcement officers interviewed Foglio’s acquaintance who admitted to conducting the gun sales and purchases for Foglio and that Foglio took possession of the handguns immediately after they were bought, according to a criminal complaint filed by a federal agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Foglio pleaded guilty to the charge of being a felon in possession of firearms in U.S. District Court in Portland on May 22.

Judge Nancy Torresen also sentenced Foglio to serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
