STANDISH – Kyle Shangraw converted a penalty kick 1:44 into the game and added a second penalty kick in the 34th minute to lead St. Joseph’s to a 3-0 men’s soccer win Wednesday over the University of Maine at Farmington.

The Monks (6-2-1) added to their lead in the 36th minute when Joe Murphy scored on a header off a free kick from Nate Fox.

Robert Petrosillo and Scott Benner combined for a pair of saves to record the shutout against the Beavers (1-3-1).

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, LYNDON STATE 0: Sean Goodrich knocked in a rebound off a shot by Finn Ducker in the first overtime to lift the Nor’easters (4-3-1) to a win over the Hornets (0-6-1) at Lyndonville, Vt.

Nate Diffin made seven saves to earn the shutout in his first career start for the Nor’easters, who outshot the Hornets, 24-16.

SMCC 1, CMCC 1: Jacob Freeman scored for the Seawolves (4-3-1, 3-1-1) on an assist from Bojan Sikima in a draw against the Mustangs (4-1-1, 4-1-1) in a Yankee Small College Conference game at South Portland.

Brandon Morissette scored the equalizer for the Mustangs in the 26th minute.

FIELD HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 8, BATES 0: Emily Simonton scored three goals, and Rachel Kennedy had two goals and an assist as the sixth-ranked Polar Bears (5-1, 3-1) scored four times in the first eight minutes and cruised past the Bobcats (1-5, 0-4) in a NESCAC game at Lewiston.

Katie Riley chipped in with three assists for the Polar Bears, and Liz Znamierowski added one goal and one assist.

Bowdoin’s lone save was made by Hannah Gartner, who combined with Liz Rill and Clara Belitz on the shutout.

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Rachelle Messuri collected one goal and one assist, and Emma Astbury made five saves to record the shutout as the Monks (6-0) downed the Huskies (3-6) at Gorham.

Kelsey Dumond opened the scoring for the Monks in the 11th minute. Amanda Celata added to the lead 15 minutes later.

St. Joseph’s put the game out of reach when Messuri scored her sixth goal of the season on a breakaway 4:19 into the second half.

Kayla Kennedy had nine saves for the Huskies.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

SMCC 1, CMCC 1: Emma Bonneville opened the scoring for the Seawolves (3-2-2, 2-1-1) in the 29th minute and the Mustangs (1-1-2, 1-1-2) got the equalizer three minutes later at South Portland. The YSCC game was stopped due to darkness with 6:30 left.

BASEBALL

SMCC 5, BRIDGTON ACADEMY 4: Pat Emanuelson hit a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Seawolves (7-2) over the Wolverines at Standish.

Dylan Morrow threw two hitless innings of relief to earn the win for SMCC.
