AUGUSTA — Several bird hunting seasons are beginning this week.

Grouse and woodcock hunting season starts on Tuesday. It also marks the beginning of waterfowl season in the southern and coastal parts of Maine.

State officials are reminding grouse hunters about a new law that requires hunters in or traveling through unorganized territories to label their harvested birds with their name and date before the next calendar day.

Wild turkey hunting season starts on Thursday and will continue until Nov. 1. Turkey hunters are getting a longer season and clearance to hunt in more areas due to a growth in the turkey population. Hunters can take up to two birds this fall season.
