SOUTH PORTLAND — As part of National Fire Safety Week, the Fire Department will host an open house Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Central Fire Station, 684 Broadway.

This year’s theme is the prevention of kitchen fires, considered the leading cause of house fires by the National Fire Protection Association, the department said in a press release.

Along with equipment demonstrations, apparatus on display, informational booths and car seat safety checks, firefighters will also provide tips on how to avoid kitchen fires. Refreshments will be served, too.
