Residents of District 1 should re-elect Rich Ellis to the Brunswick School Board. During his first term he has looked at the challenges facing the School Department from all angles. More important he is willing to change his mind when faced with new information.

Too often town projects are characterized by blind adherence to the first plan submitted by town staff or consultants.

As chairman of the board’s facilities committee, Ellis has led in a far different manner. Instead of forging ahead with a $38 million plan to simultaneously renovate Coffin School and Brunswick Junior High School, he asked to “reboot” the process. He wanted a plan that would meet the town’s long-term needs in a way that didn’t adversely impact taxpayers.

Ellis’s willingness to re-examine this plan gives me confidence that when we must spend money on schools we will do it carefully.
