STANDISH — Charlotte Smith scored in the first half, then assisted on Reagan Emerson’s goal in the second Saturday, leading ninth-seeded Gorham to a 2-0 win against eighth-ranked Bonny Eagle in a Western Class A field hockey prelim.

Gorham (8-6-1) will be at top-ranked Scarborough (13-0-1) in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Smith started the scoring in the 25th minute, making a quick transition off a Bonny Eagle corner. Emerson scored in the 62nd.

Meagan Baker earned the shutout with 10 saves. Ashlyn Wintle stopped 14 shots for the Scots (5-7-3).

FREEPORT 1, GREELY 0: Abby Smith scored from Megan Peacock on a corner midway through the first half, and the eighth-ranked Falcons (6-9) held off the ninth-seeded Rangers (4-10-1) in a Western Class B prelim at Freeport.

Morgan Karnes made 12 saves to record the shutout for Freeport, which will be at top-seeded York (14-0) in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Sabrina Thompson finished with four saves for Greely.

MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 3, HALL-DALE 2: Katie George scored two goals to lead the ninth-seeded Huskies (6-9) over eighth-ranked Hall-Dale (6-8-1) in an Eastern Class C prelim at Farmingdale.

SOCCER

DEERING 2, BIDDEFORD 0: Alexis Elowitch and Meghana Clere scored second-half goals to lift the Rams (9-3-1) over the Tigers (9-3-1) at Portland.

Elowitch headed in a corner from Edie Pallozzi with 19:50 remaining, and Clere scored 1:20 later from Meaghan Wells.

Lee Ann Downs made three saves for the shutout.

MT. ARARAT 2, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 0: Torri Pelletier and Libby Ouellette scored to help the Eagles (12-1) down the Broncos (9-2-2) at Topsham.

Kate Guerin made a pair of saves to record the shutout. Abby Lord stopped 13 shots for Hampden.

YARMOUTH 4, POLAND 1: Katie Clemmer and Abby Condon each collected a goal and an assist for the Clippers (7-3-3), who scored three times in the second half to pull away from the Knights (6-7) at Poland.

The Knights took the lead after five minutes when Sarah Bolduc scored on a corner kick from Emily Bolduc.

Julia Primeau and Emma Torres also scored for the Clippers.

Lindsey Theriault finished with 15 saves for Poland.

SOUTH PORTLAND 1, BONNY EAGLE 0: Shae O’Brien scored from inside the 18 in the 34th minute and the Red Riots (2-10-1) held off the Scots (0-12-1) at South Portland.

Emma Russell made four saves to earn the shutout. Kelsey Perkins finished with nine saves for Bonny Eagle.

WINDHAM 6, PORTLAND 0: Jenna Soucy scored as the Eagles (12-0-1) pulled away from the Bulldogs (5-6-2) at Windham.

Lauren Shoemaker, Shannon Valente, Ciera Berthiaume and Luisa Sbardella also scored for Windham, which led 2-0 at halftime.

Taylor Crosby and Joanna Quinn combined to make 30 saves for the Bulldogs.

VOLLEYBALL

YARMOUTH 3, JONESPORT-BEALS 0: Maddy Maierhofer served five aces, Makenzie Sheehan had five kills and Madeleine Anderson added three, helping the Clippers (13-1) down the Royals (1-11) at Yarmouth.
