WESTBROOK — Westbrook police say they have apprehended a burglary suspect who allegedly broke into several homes at The Hamlet Mobile Home Park while residents were sleeping.
In a news release, Sgt. John Desjardins identified the suspect as 22-year-old Robert Paul Auger of Westbrook. Auger was being held Sunday night on $2,060 cash bail at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. He has been charged with burglary and theft, and is being held on several outstanding warrants.
Police allege that Auger, over the past week, broke into several occupied homes at night. In one case, a resident awoke to find a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt in the home. The resident scared the burglar off.
Police said a barking dog awakened a woman in the mobile home park around 3 a.m. Saturday. The woman told police that someone had tried to break into her house.
Police converged on the Saco Street area and apprehended a man – later identified as Auger – as he fled the neighborhood.
