JSMS Fundraising

Help support Jordan-Small Middle School field trips and student events by purchasing a coupon book filled with more 30 discount coupons to local businesses. The cost of the coupon book is only $10 with all proceeds going directly to JSMS. Here are just a few of the discounts offered: Molly’s Cupcakes – Buy 3 cupcakes and get 1 free; Good Life Market – Buy one sandwich, get one free; Eyecare Today – $75 off an eye exam or glasses; Dog Gone Grooming – $5 off a full-service grooming or a free nail trim. Books may be purchased from any JSMS student and will also be sold at local school events.

Fundraising efforts also continue to raise money for the Jordan-Small Middle School 8th grade year-end trip to celebrate middle school graduation. To help reach their goal, the Raymond Village Community Church will be sponsoring a Halloween party on Oct. 26 from noon-4 p.m. Facepainting, tattoos, pumpkin relays, donuts on a string, pie-eating contest, guessing jars, sack races, storytelling and a bouncy house (weather permitting) are just a few of the fun activities for kids of all ages. Hot dogs, hamburgers and cotton candy will be for sale. A costume parade will be held at 3 p.m., so come dressed for the season. Suggested admission price is $5/child.

A movie fundraiser will also be held at Smitty’s on Nov. 10 for the 6 and 7:30 p.m. showings of any movie. A special ticket is required. You can obtain this special ticket through any JSMS eighth grader or in the lobby at Smitty’s on Nov. 10. Admission to the movie is the regular ticket price, however, the eighth-grade class will receive up to 50 percent of the proceeds. For more information, contact Brenda Dionne at 615-2379.

Reading Ravens

At the end of the 2012-2013 school year, students at Raymond Elementary School voted to name the Raven as their new school mascot. As a way of connecting the new mascot with academics, Reading Ravens was established to encourage students to read, read and read some more. During the first trimester of school, all classrooms have been focusing on poetry. Poems are read daily in the morning announcements, and the whole school is learning the poem, “Clouds” by Christina Rossetti, to recite at a future school assembly. The goal for Reading Ravens is to increase the number of students in the RES building who are reading on a daily basis.
