ORONO — Mark Anthoine had two goals and two assists, Cam Brown and Blaine Byron each finished with a goal and three assists, and the University of Maine buried Massachusetts with a six-goal second period on the way to an 8-4 nonleague victory at Alfond Arena.

The Black Bears (3-2) faced deficits of 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 in the second before pouring it on over the last 11 minutes of the second.

Maine took the lead on goals by Brian Morgan at 9:06 and Brown at 11:14. Byron added a power-play strike at 13:59, and the Black Bears turned it into a rout with tallies from Anthoine and Scarborough’s Jake Rutt in the final minute.

Martin Ouellette made 28 saves for the Black Bears.

FIELD HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 4, COLBY 0: Rachel Kennedy scored twice during a four-goal outburst in a 10-minute span of the second half as the Polar Bears (12-1, 8-1 NESCAC) beat the Mules (8-5, 4-5) at Brunswick.

Bowdoin extended its home winning streak to 40 games, which is a school record and the longest active streak in Division III.

Emily McColgan and Katie Riley each added a goal.

SOUTHERN MAINE 5, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 2: Peyton Dostie scored three goals and also had an assist as the Huskies (8-10, 5-5 Little East) cruised to a win over the Colonials (4-12, 1-9) at Danbury, Conn.

Natalie Harkins added two goals and an assist for the Huskies.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 4, NICHOLS 0: Hannah Tavella scored a pair of goals early in the second half to break open a 1-0 game as the Nor’easters (12-5, 10-0 Commonwealth Coast) clinched the top seed in the conference tournament with a win over the Bison (6-11, 6-5) at Biddeford.

Holly Smith made seven saves as UNE recorded its fifth straight shutout and extended its scoreless streak to 364 minutes. Casey Clark and Erin Bibber added a goal apiece. Clark also had one assist.

WILLIAMS 1, BATES 0: Caitlin Conlon scored with 5:29 left in regulation to lift the Ephs (5-8, 3-6 NESCAC) over the Bobcats (4-10, 1-8) at Williamstown, Mass.

Becca Otley finished with 19 saves for the Bobcats.

ST. JOSEPH’S 2, COLBY- SAWYER 0: Meghan Williams opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and Elizabeth O’Neal added a goal less than 10 minutes later to lead the Monks (13-2, 7-2 GNAC) to a win over the Chargers (6-11, 1-8) at New London, N.H.

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 0: Katie Cobb finished with six saves to record her third shutout of the season as the Huskies (5-11-1, 2-4 Little East) downed the Anchorwomen (5-9-1, 1-5) at Gorham.

USM opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Mariah Cropley drove home a loose ball following a corner kick.

Kelly Burrell added an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.

BOWDOIN 2, COLBY 0: Kiersten Turner opened the scoring 4:26 into the second half on an assist from Jamie Hofstetter as the Polar Bears (10-2-1, 6-2-1 NESCAC) beat the Mules (5-6-2, 1-6-2) at Brunswick.

Hofstetter added an insurance goal 12 minutes later. Bowdoin keeper Bridget McCarthy made five saves to record the shutout.

LASELL 4, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Lauren Chouinard scored the only goal for the Monks (14-3, 9-2 GNAC) in a loss to the Lasers (13-3-1, 10-0-1) at Newton, Mass.

ENDICOTT 8, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1: The Nor’easters (8-8-1, 4-3-1 Commonwealth Coast) got a first-half goal from Margaret Palmer, but Endicott (12-5-1, 7-1) scored six goals over the final 19 minutes to pull away at Biddeford.

WILLIAMS 3, BATES 0: Kristi Kirshe scored in the 15th minute and the Ephs (9-2-2, 6-2-1 NESCAC) added a pair of insurance goals midway through the second half against the Bobcats (4-8-1, 1-7-1) at Williamstown, Mass.

Ben Brewster added a goal and an assist. Matt Dias Costa and Sam White also scored.

Colby tied the game at 1-1 in the 23rd minute on a goal by Keith Chernin.

SMCC 59, ST. THOMAS 52: Tong Akot had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Seawolves in a season-opening win at Auburn.

Jon Amabile chipped in 14 points and Scott Proudman had 11.
