A teenager who was wanted by authorities in connection with a series of burglaries and had been on the run from police for several weeks was arrested Thursday in Biddeford.

Maine State Police said Michael Clapp, 18, of Sanford was found hiding in the house of a friend at 38 Wentworth St. They had been seeking him in connection with residential burglaries in the Hollis area and in Alton Bay, N.H.

Trooper Jeremy Forbes said Clapp and three friends stole firearms, a truck and an ATV during their burglary spree.

Clapp was the last of four suspects being sought in connection with burglaries in Hollis, Waterboro, Limington and New Hampshire in mid-September. Guns were stolen in both Hollis and Alton Bay.

George Sproul, 18, of Limington and Harley Herman, 18, of Sanford were arrested last month on multiple burglary charges in connection with the Maine and New Hampshire burglaries. Dylan Girard, 18, of Sanford was charged last month with receiving stolen property.

All four suspects remain incarcerated and are expected to be indicted soon on charges in Alton Bay, Forbes said.

The truck, ATV and gun stolen in New Hampshire were recovered in Limington. A revolver stolen in Hollis has not been found.

Forbes said the teenagers were pawning the stolen items.

“We believe it was all drug-related,” he said.

Forbes said troopers worked with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Biddeford police to track Clapp to the house on Wentworth Street and found him hiding in an upstairs closet.

“Mr. Clapp was hard to find until today,” Forbes said.

Clapp was arrested without incident around 10:30 a.m. Thursday and taken to the York County Jail in Alfred, where he is being held on $5,000 bail. Clapp had been staying at an Old Orchard Beach motel for most of October.

Forbes said troopers were concerned that Clapp might be in possession of the handgun stolen in Hollis that police have yet to locate.
