ORR’S ISLAND — Violet H. Dunlap, age 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at a local hospital.

She was born May 1, 1937, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Helen Vash. She grew up in Lincoln Park, MI, with her four brothers, raised by her mother and stepfather, Rocco DiSciascio. She met the love of her life Edwin Dunlap while he was stationed in Rhode Island with the U.S. Navy. The couple was married April 9, 1960, in Lincoln Park, MI, and returned to Edwin’s home, Orr’s Island.

Violet had worked for Jeff Johnson & Associates, Brunswick, as well as a server at different times at Dockside, The Square Deal and Pirates Cove, Bailey Island. She had been employed at BIW for over 17 years as a technical clerk. In her spare time she volunteered her time with the Orr’s Island Community Club and the Fire Department Auxiliary.

She was a familiar face in Lowell’s Cove, looking over any children as they swam and played along the shore. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and baking, knitting, crocheting for her family. She also enjoyed a night out at Bingo and the occasional trip to the casino. Her family knew her as a “most beautiful woman” inside and out.

She is survived by her husband Edwin Sr. of Orr’s Island; two sons, Edwin Dunlap Jr. and his wife Karin of Topsham, Michael G. Dunlap and his wife Rosemary of Billerica, MA; two daughters, Valery V. Harris of Brusnwick, Helen Eleanor Murray and her husband Dean of Topsham; four brothers, Frank DiSciascio and his wife Sandy of Somers Point, NJ, Peter DiSciascio and his wife Joyce of Ocean City, NJ, Louis “Dipper” DiSciascio and his wife Marty of Coon Valley, WI, Rocco DiSciascio and his wife Nancy of Walkersville, MD; ten beautiful grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of Violet’s life will take place 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, Maine. Condolences and memories can be expressed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
