BANGOR — Prosecutors say a Presque Isle man has pleaded guilty to using a fake name to fraudulently obtain a U.S. passport.
Christopher Phillips pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to making a false statement in a U.S. passport application and to misuse of a U.S. passport.
Authorities say the 42-year-old Phillips, a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, used a false name to apply for a U.S. passport in 2007, then used it in August 2011 in an attempt to enter the United States at Fort Fairfield.
Phillips also had a Maine driver’s license and debit cards in the false name. Prosecutors say Phillips used the falsified documents in an effort to conceal his criminal history from authorities.
He faces up to 10 years in prison at sentencing.
