BRUNSWICK

School Board members on Wednesday are scheduled to interview a potential interim principal to serve at Brunswick High School for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year.

The candidate’s identity has not been disclosed and will not become public until the board’s announcement that night.

Brunswick High School has been without a permanent administrator since May, when then-principal Art Abelmann unexpectedly resigned. Donna Borowick, the school’s longtime assistant principal, was appointed during the interim but is scheduled to retire Dec. 31.

Newly-hired full-time principal Shanna Crofton won’t officially start work until July 1, 2014, because she is contracted to finish the year at her current post at the Oberoi International School in Mumbai, India.

To fill the administrative vacuum, Superintendent Paul Perzanoski has recommended “an experienced administrator” to the school board. However, Perzanoski did not disclose the person’s identity and neither do any of the board members know who the candidate is. According to District 6 board member Janet Connors, recently reelected to another three-year board term, employment is the superintendent’s purview and the board only gets involved at the end of the process.

“It’s our job to trust the superintendent,” Connors said. “He said he has a plan.”

The public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Brunswick Station, to be preceded by a 30-minute executive session set for 6:30 p.m., during which the board members will interview the superintendent’s administrative nominee.
