AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is helping the Salvation Army kick off its annual red kettle campaign.

LePage is participating in a kickoff event Thursday at the State House, saying the Salvation Army has been “linked to the Christmas season and to compassion for the needy” for 122 years.

The charitable organization expects to have more than 100 red kettles on street corners and shopping areas in Maine through Christmas Eve with a fundraising goal of $800,000.
