BRUNSWICK — Cony senior quarterback Ben Lucas threw five touchdown passes in a record-setting performance Friday night to lead Cony to its first regional football championship.

Lucas threw touchdown passes of 22, 29, 8, 28 and 35 yards as the Rams beat top-ranked Brunswick 48-38 in the Eastern Class B championship game.

Cony (8-2) will play either Kennebunk or Marshwood for the state title next Friday night in Orono.

The five touchdown passes gave Lucas 86 for his career, a state record.

Brunswick led 24-21 late in the second quarter when Lucas led Cony on a 70-yard drive to take the lead for good on a 1-yard run by Charlie Hallak with 25.8 seconds left in the half.

Lucas then threw touchdown passes of 28 yards to Tayler Carrier and 35 yards to John Bennett in the third quarter to take control
