OHIO (AP) — Authorities say horses running loose in western Ohio have caused a series of traffic crashes that left at least two drivers injured and six of the animals dead.

WHIO-TV reports that the crashes happened early today near Covington, in Miami County, north of Dayton.

Miami County sheriff ’s deputies say there were at least five separate crashes, the first ones at about 3:30 a.m. Two of the drivers were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.

No one could say yet where the horses came from or how they got out.

Deputies are warning motorists in the area to be careful because there could be about 20 other horses running loose.
