VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Patricia Elizabeth Hurley McManus, 81, of Virginia Beach, VA (formerly of Fairfax, VA and Richmond, Maine), peacefully passed away in her home on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013.

She was born in Richmond, Maine, on Dec. 26, 1931, the daughter of Phyllis Elsie (Sykes) and John Cornelius Hurley. She graduated valedictorian from Richmond High School in 1949 and attended University of Maine at Farmington; receiving her B.S. in home economics in 1953.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, bike riding, walks on the beach, and time spent with family. She was an avid Virginia Tech and Washington Redskins football fan.

She was preceded in death by her one true love, Donald G. McManus, finally reunited and dancing across heaven. Together they had five daughters: Stephanie L. McManus and Stanley Sumner of Va Beach, VA; Stacie E. and Mark Comer of Haymarket, VA; Sherrie E. and Greg Thuot of Stafford, VA: Shirlie A. McManus-Hunt and Chris Hunt of Clifton, VA; and Sandie J. and Dave Cannon of Spotsylvania, VA. She had 14 grandchildren: Brittney McManus, Amanda Duda, Ashley Sumner, Zachary Duda, Kelsey Sumner, Lexi Cannon, Kari Comer, Brian Duda, Haley Cannon, Kyle Comer, Logan Sumner, Kylie Thuot, Brendon Thuot and Trevor Hunt. She had one great-granddaughter, Teagan Anne.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Richmond, Maine, with the Rev. Normand E. Carpentier officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery.
