PORTLAND — John Renna, 83, died peacefully Nov. 15, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Portland on April 29, 1930, he was the son of Rosario and Agrippina Amaru’ Renna. He grew up in Portland and attended local schools while he tended to his ailing mother before she died early in his life. Renna enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was an avid sports fan especially loving the Yankees and South Portland Red Riots. In his earlier years he also enjoyed spending time at Scarborough Downs. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling abroad.

He was a kind, gentle soul who put all others before himself. Most of all he was a father, friend and hero to his daughters.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rosario and Agripinna Renna; siblings Vincent Renna, Joseph Renna, Philomena Falconieri, Grace Renna, Mary Palmer and Emanuel Renna.

He is survived by his daughters, Gina Page, and husband, Dan, and Tammy Tardy, all of South Portland; grandchildren Steven Tardy, Robbie Renna and Ashley Tardy; great-grandson Riley James; sisters Rose Walker and Patricia Sanbor, of Portland; a special niece, Debbie Budroe, and  several other loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
