Christmas on the Cape coming

The Cape Business Alliance’s third annual Christmas on the Cape on Dec. 7 will include family activities at 13 businesses from 2-6 p.m., including a scavenger hunt. Singer Rick Charette will perform at 4 p.m., and the tree lighting in front of the Cape Elizabeth Public Safety building is at 6:15 p.m. Also included are a visit with Santa Claus at Coastal Wellness Family Chiropractic, holiday card making at Shore Things, Christmas cookie decorating at Re/Max Oceanside and Letters to Santa at Tara Home and Gift. At Coastal Wellness Family Chiropractic, staff from Alewives Brook Farm and Jordan’s Farm will help families make of reindeer food. Scavenger hunt forms can be picked at one of the participating businesses beginning Nov. 25, or at the start of the event. Local business partners with residents to express thanks

During its Customer Appreciation Days, OneMain Financial at 19 Hannaford Drive in Scarborough will provide an opportunity to participate in the annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program, sponsored by American Red Cross. The program allows Americans to show their gratitude and best wishes to  veterans and their families by signing and sending holiday cards. OneMain Financial will provide and mail holiday cards through Nov. 30.

Giving Back

Scarborough Kiwanis Key Club members helped their neighbors Nov. 16 by raking leaves at homes of elderly or handicapped Scarborough residents. Those residents who needed the free help signed up through fliers that were sent out by Scarborough Community Services. As many as 40 club members went out in groups to the residences in Scarborough and then took the leaves to Broadturn Farm for composting.

New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Cumberland County hired Gary James as the new director of regional assessing. James will manage the newly created Cumberland County Regional Assessing Office. This new program originated after town officials in Cumberland, Yarmouth and Falmouth sought an assessing office for municipalities that have contracted with Cumberland County.

Sharon A. Sudbay, of Portland was elected to a two-year term as chief volunteer officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s board of directors. Sudbay, who learned to swim at the flagship Portland Boys & Girls Clubhouse, has served on the board for 13 years, including eight as chair of the resource development committee. She is an associate at Mitchell Tardy Government Affairs and provides public affairs counsel, as well as stakeholder communications and outreach planning to businesses and organizations.
