TOPSHAM — The Topsham Parks and Recreation Department is offering numerous programs over the winter months.

Little Dribblers

A first- and second-grade Little Dribblers Basketball Skills Program will be run by Mt. Ararat High School varsity girls coach Kelly LaFountain and her squad.

This six-week program will run on Saturday mornings and will introduce the fundamentals of basketball through games, skills and small-sided scrimmages.

Cost to register is $35 for anyone in the School Administrative District 75 area. Deadline to register is Dec. 13 and there is a $10 late fee on a space available basis.

Program begins on Jan. 4.

7th-8th hoops

Seventh- and eighthgraders looking to spruce up their skills, and have some court time, can join boys varsity coach Aaron Watson and his team members in this six-week program at Mt. Ararat Middle School.

The program begins on Jan. 4, and the cost to register is $35 for anyone in SAD 75.

Girls have the gym from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while the boys are 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Elks Foul Shooting Contest

To be held Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Mt. Ararat Middle School for boys and girls ages 8-13, as of April 1, 2014.

The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department and Topsham Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Brunswick Lodge B.P.O., Elks, No. 2043, will be holding the annual subordinate lodge level of the Elks National “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest.

Age groups are 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

Learn to Ski

For a 23rd season Topsham Parks & Recreation is offering Learn to Ski and Snowboard Lessons at Lost Valley in Auburn.

New this year are ski passes for parents and children with two or more years of lessons.

Lessons are offered on Tuesday evenings in the month of January for four weeks (1.5 hours each night). Topsham volunteers provide supervision to and from the area.

Lessons start Jan. 7, with the bus departing at 4:15 p.m. from the Topsham Town Hall, and returning at 8:45 p.m.

Cost for lessons and transportation package is $140, while cost for lessons, rentals and transportation is $195.

A ski pass will cost $95, while ski pass/rentals is $160.

Registration deadline is Dec. 13.

Open gym

Open gym is available Sundays at Mt. Ararat High School through the end of March, and participants should use the backside entrance to the gym.

Open gym is open to SAD 75 residents only.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. is Family Open Gym for $1 per person. Children under fifthgrade must be accompanied with a parent/adult, with no adult-only play.

Candlepin Bowling

Candlepin Bowling at the Columbus Bowling Bowl for youth ages 8-14 will begin another session on Jan. 11.

This 10-week program includes rental of shoes, three strings and instruction. Teams will be formed for league play and an endof season tournament will take place.

The beginner and advanced bowlers session begins at 11:30 a.m.

Cost for Topsham residents is $35, with an additional $10 for non-residents.

Youth wrestling

Youth wrestling for ages 4- 6 and grades 2-5 is available. Join Mt. Ararat High School wrestling coaches in this fun-filled, skill-building program.

Programs start on Jan. 7 and will run Tuesdays and Thursdays for 10 weeks.

Ages 4-6 coed will go from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at a cost of $15.

Grades 2-5 will go from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the cost is $37.

The program is open to any child from the SAD 75 System.

Children should come wearing the proper attire.
