“The Sound of Music” comes to the South Portland Public Library in the latest installment of the “Patron Page to Stage” series on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m., at the main library location at 482 Broadway, South Portland.

Join the director of this Portland Players’ production, Joshua Chard, musical director Bob Gauthier, and the children featured in this theater classic, as they discuss the months-long process of bringing this much-loved musical to life. Featuring a cast of 30, with well-known musical theater standards, a massive set, and 100 costumes, “The Sound of Music” is a complex and challenging production to bring to the stage.

Pulling aside the curtain, our panel will answer behind-the-scenes questions such as, “What does a director and musical director look for in auditions?” “How do they decide on the overarching concept for the show?” “What does a typical rehearsal look like?” “How is the Broadway version of the production different from the movie?” “How can local actors get involved in community theater?” Some special guests just may do a little singing, too.

“The Sound of Music” runs from Nov. 22-Dec. 8, at The Portland Players’ home located at 420 Cottage Road, South Portland. Call 799-7337 or visit www.portlandplayers.org for more information regarding the performance schedule and ticket prices.

Admission to the library’s event is free. Questions can be directed at 767-7660. This program is made possible through the support of the Friends of the South Portland Public Library.
