RUTLAND, Vt. — The Vermont Chamber of Commerce is seeking closer business ties with Quebec’s aerospace industry, and to help make that happen, officials will be signing a memorandum of understanding in Montreal with their Canadian counterparts.

On Monday, representatives of Vermont Aerospace & Aviation Association, a division of the state Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to sign the memorandum with officials from Aero Montreal, Quebec’s aerospace industry trade group.

The goal of the memorandum is to establish a U.S.-Canadian Aerospace Corridor that increases opportunities between Vermont and Canadian aerospace sectors.

“We are very cognizant of the fact that we have a $22 billion Canadian aerospace industry about an hour and a half to the north,” Christopher Carrigan, the Chamber’s vice president of business development, told the Rutland Herald. “And there’s great opportunity to connect Vermont’s aerospace cluster with the Canadian aerospace industry for really enhanced supply chain opportunities.”

The agreement has been in the works for two years. The details were finalized last summer at the Paris Air Show.

In addition to chamber officials, the signing Monday at the fourth edition of Aero Montreal’s International Aerospace Innovation Forum will be attended by officials with the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development and representatives of nine companies.
