HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut routed Maine 95-68 on Friday night to stay undefeated in men’s basketball.

DeAndre Daniels and Omar Calhoun both added 16 points for the Huskies (9-0), who have won 54 consecutive home games against nonconference opponents.

Maine (1-7) was overmatched against a national power but did manage to stay in the game early.

Connecticut hit the game’s first two shots but missed its next five while the Black Bears used an 8-0 run to take an 8-5 lead.

UConn called two timeouts before the first media timeout, and didn’t retake the lead until Niels Giffey made a layup six minutes into the game.

UConn then ignited with a 16-2 run and led 54-31 at halftime, eventually stretching the lead to 30 points early in the second half.

Xavier Pollard had 20 points for Maine, which has lost six straight.

UConn shot 53 percent from the field, including 56 percent from 3-point range.

BOWDOIN 74, BATES 71: John Swords scored 18 points and collected 12 rebounds to lead Bowdoin (5-0) over Bates (6-2) at Brunswick.

The Polar Bears closed the game with an 18-5 run over the final four minutes to overcome a nine-point deficit.

Matt Mathias started the run with a 3-point jump shot and ended the game with a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win.

The Bobcats got 22 points from Graham Safford and 20 from Mike Boornazian.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BRIDGEWATER STATE 82, BATES 65: Megan Boutilette scored 21 points to help Bridgewater State (3-2) defeat Bates (5-3) at Northfield, Vt.

Bridgewater ended the first half with an 11-2 run to take a 20-point lead into halftime. Colleen Hanscom scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half and Boutilette had 11 for Bridgewater.

Elisha Hornich and Jennie Lindland finished with 13 points apiece.

Meredith Kelly led Bates with 23 points, while Allaina Murphy scored 19.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

UMASS-BOSTON 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Jenny Currie, Samantha Fallon and Alyssa Sullivan each scored first-period goals to lead the Beacons (3-6-1, 1-4) to a win over the Huskies (5-3, 4-1) at Boston.

Nia Kelly stopped all 16 shots she faced for the Huskies in relief of Liz Bergstrom, who started the game and made six saves in just over 13 minutes.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 2, PLYMOUTH STATE 0: Shannon Smith and Emily Corrales each scored goals in the second period on assists from Cassandra Connolly as the Nor’easters (5-4-3) downed the Panthers (2-7) at Plymouth, N.H.

Sydney Helmbrecht made 29 saves to record the shutout for the Nor’easters, who were outshot 29-25 by the Panthers.

MAINE 2, BROWN 1: Katy Massey and Brianne Kilgour each scored first-period goals, and the Black Bears (1-12-4) held on to edge Brown (1-9-2) at Orono.

Massey opened the scoring on a rebound 3:25 into the game and Kilgour added a power-play goal at 16:06.

Mariah Fujimagari finished with 20 saves to earn the win for the Black Bears.

SALVE REGINA 3, COLBY 3: Falmouth’s Megan Fortier scored with 10.7 seconds remaining to push the Mules (3-3-1) into a tie with the Seahawks (5-3-2) at Waterville.

Sarah Markey’s power-play goal with 13:49 left put Salve Regina up 3-1, but Kat Mackey pulled Colby back within one five minutes later with a power-play goal. Fortier’s tying wrister came after Colby pulled goalie Brianne Wheeler in the final minute.

Kailey Buxbaum also scored for the Mules. Wheeler finished with 36 saves.

MEN’S HOCKEY

UMASS-BOSTON 6, UNE 1: Nathan Milam scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Beacons (5-1-2, 2-1-2) to an ECAC East win over the Nor’easters (3-7-1, 1-5) at Biddeford.

Tyler Fleurent scored the lone UNE goal on an assist from Blaise Healy with just over five minutes left in the game.

BABSON 5, USM 2: Andrew Bonazza scored twice and Mike Driscoll had three assists as the Beavers (9-1, 5-0 ECAC East) beat the Huskies (4-4, 3-3) at Gorham.

Todd Bannerman scored both Southern Maine goals while Alex Pompeo had two assists.

TUFTS 5, COLBY 2: Tyler Voight scored a pair of goals to help Tufts (2-6-0, 1-4-0 NESCAC) down Colby (3-3-2, 1-3-1) at Waterville.

The teams were even after two periods, but Tufts dominated the third as Blake Edwards, Brian Ouellette and Voight all scored while goalie Ryan Kellenberger shut out the Mules. Kellenberger finished with 31 saves and Colby’s Sam Parker had 23.
