WINDHAM — Brad Carney scored 18 points and Cheverus rode a 17-10 third-quarter run to a 65-62 victory over Windham in a boys’ basketball season opener Friday.

The Eagles pulled within one in the final 30 seconds, but Zordan Holman hit two free throws for the final margin.

Emmanuel Ismail added 12 points, and Holman and Noah Stebbins each had 11 for the Stags.

Spencer Hodge scored 23 points for Windham. Kevin Weisser chipped in 12 points and Markus D’Andrea had 10. 

SCARBOROUGH 86, BIDDEFORD 32: Matt Hartl scored 30 points, Sam Freeman and Milani Hicks added 12 apiece and the Red Storm blew by the Tigers at Scarborough.

Hartl put up 21 points in the first half, when Scarborough took a 44-22 lead.

Corey Creeger had 13 points for Biddeford. Patrick Pearl added 10. 

GORHAM 48, MARSHWOOD 45: Nick Thibeault made a pair of 3-pointers late in the game and the Rams held on to edge the Hawks at Gorham.

Thibeault finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Billy Ruby added 12 points.

Brady Innes scored 13 points to pace Marshwood. 

PORTLAND 84, MASSABESIC 31: Jayvon Pitts-Young finished with 23 points, while Stephen Alex and Justin Zukowski added 12 each to lead the Bulldogs past the Mustangs at Waterboro.

Daniel Amabile paced Massabesic with 10 points. 

CAPE ELIZABETH 57, WELLS 39: Ethan Murphy scored 18 points to pace Cape Elizabeth in a victory over the Warriors at Wells.

The Capers jumped out to a 22-9 lead in the first quarter, making use of their press to force turnovers. Murphy poured in 14 points in the first half.

Jake Moody led the Warriors with 15 points. 

POLAND 64, FREEPORT 45: C.J. Martin scored 17 points for the Knights in a win over Freeport at Poland.

The Knights held the Falcons to one point in the second quarter and opened a 36-17 lead.

Alan Young added 14 for Poland and Tyler Michaud scored 11.

The Falcons were led by Chandler Birmingham with 17 points. 

GREELY 82, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 46: Michael McDevitt had 31 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to lead the Rangers past the Patriots at Cumberland.

Conner Hanley added 15 points and Kyle Wood scored 10 for Greely, which led 45-14 at the half.

Tyler St. Pierre scored 12 points to pace Gray-New Gloucester. David Chanlatte finished with 11 and Andreas Kariotis chipped in 10. 

FALMOUTH 70, YORK 42: Thomas Coyne scored 20 points, including eight in the second quarter as the Yachtsmen pulled away from the Wildcats at York.

Coyne hit two of his three 3-pointers in the second quarter as Falmouth outscored York 24-8 for a 41-16 lead.

Nick Burton added 17 points and Jack Symonds finished with 15 for Falmouth.

Nicholas Darby had 10 points for York. 

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 65, TRAIP ACADEMY 49: Tyler Scott finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Joe Gildart and Eric Hogan added 19 and 13 points, respectively, to lead the Seagulls past the Rangers at Kittery.

Chris Czachor paced Traip with 10 points. 

WAYNFLETE 92, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 35: Serge Nyirikamba scored 25 points, Harry Baker-Connick added 17 and the Flyers rolled past the visiting Lions.

Sam Purinton scored 10 points for Greater Portland Christian. 

BRUNSWICK 78, CONY 64: Blake Gordon had 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dragons past the Rams at Augusta.

Elliot Boyd added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Brunswick, which led 39-25 at halftime. Derek Devereaux chipped in 12 points and Ryan Black had 10.

Liam Stokes scored 18 points for Cony. 

MT. ARARAT 57, MESSALONSKEE 54: Shyheim Ulrickson scored 18 points and Mike Crawford added 17 to lift Mt. Ararat to a win at Oakland.

Nicholas Mayo led Messalonskee with 20 points. 

MEDOMAK VALLEY 61, OCEANSIDE 52: Nicholas DePatsy went 6 for 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win as the Panthers held off the Mariners at Waldoboro.

DePatsy finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Colton Spear and Zach Starr added 11 points apiece.

Oceanside was led by Isaiah Stone-Patterson with 22 points. 

MORSE 62, LEAVITT 47: Jacob Freeman tossed in 20 points for Morse in a win over Leavitt at Turner.

Ethan Winglass added 14 for the Shipbuilders, who took a 38-25 lead in the first half.

Zach Goulette paced Leavitt with 13 points. 

LINCOLN ACADEMY 72, BELFAST 58: James Seward Matel finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead the Eagles over the Lions at Newcastle.

Allen Oliver and Sawyer Pinkham added 12 points each.

Zavier Roman led Belfast with 19 points. Korey Doolan made three 3-pointers in the first quarter.

WINSLOW 65, MCI 42: Trevor Lovely scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Black Raiders over the Huskies at Winslow.

Justin Martin added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

MCI was led by Slade Emery with 13 points. 

FOREST HILLS 82, VINALHAVEN 35: Matt Turner had 12 points and 13 assists to lead the Tigers to an East-West Conference win in Jackman.

Tanner Daigle added 19 points, while Ryan Petrin and Brandon Ouellette each had 17.

Louis Cray scored 15 points to lead Vinalhaven. 

LAWRENCE 63, SKOWHEGAN 57: Cole Robinson and Joe LeClair each scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs to a win over the Indians in Skowhegan.

Brandon Hallee and Brad King each added 10 points.

Isaac Witham scored 21 points for Skowhegan. Dequan Frost added 17 points, including five 3-pointers. 

VALLEY 61, BUCKFIELD 39: Collin Miller scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers to a victory in Bingham.

Dylan Belanger also had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Teagan Staples had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Robert Rowe scored nine points to lead Buckfield. 

MT. VIEW 46, ERSKINE 43: Brady Gibbs scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs to an overtime win at South China.

Nathan Wren added 11 points and Jack Simpson finished with 10.

Tyler Bailey scored all six of his points from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter as Erskine erased a 10-point deficit. Sophomore Matt Clary scored five of his 11 points in the fourth. Jared Gartley added 13 points, and Trevor Browne had five points and eight rebounds.

HOCKEY

MESSALONSKEE 3, BANGOR 2: Brandon Nale scored the go-ahead goal just 50 seconds after the Rams tied the game as the Eagles won their season opener at Sawyer Arena in Bangor.

Dan Condon scored in the first period with assists from Chase Cunningham and Jared Cunningham to give Messalonskee a 1-0 lead. Bangor tied it in the second on a goal by Justin Courtney, before Messalonskee took the lead back later in the period on a goal by Josh Towle.

Owen Trundy tied it in the third period for Bangor.

Chase Cunningham and Jared Cunningham assisted on the winner. Ben Weeks earned the win with 18 saves.
