GARDINER — A Wiscasset man has been charged in connection with a weekend shooting on Costello Road.

Sean Kingston, 38, was arrested Monday morning and charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said in a news release. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible, Toman said.

Kingston was being held at the Kennebec County jail in Augusta on $1,000 cash bail.

The victim, described as a 34-year-old Costello Road resident, is expected to recover after being shot in the torso with a handgun Saturday night, Toman said. Her identity was not released.

Kingston is believed to split his time between the woman’s house and Wiscasset.

Police were called to the home shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. Officers were led to the bedroom, where they found the wounded woman conscious and able to respond to questions, Toman said.

The woman was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she continued to receive treatment Monday.

Kingston, who is believed to have witnessed the shooting, left the scene once the officers arrived, Toman said.

“Upon learning the witness had fled, several unsuccessful attempts were made to locate him,” Toman said.

Police were subsequently able to contact him. Kingston voluntarily turned himself in Monday morning. Gardiner Police Detective Michael Durham interviewed Kingston and then arrested him on the gun charge.

Detectives from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit assisted Gardiner Police on Saturday night.
