BATH – Bath police are investigating the attempted abduction of a child that took place in downtown Bath on Wednesday afternoon.
Lt. Robert Savary said a 12-year-old boy told police he was approached around 3 p.m. by a man driving a minivan near the 500 block of Middle Street.
The van’s driver reached out and grabbed the boy, attempting to pull him into the van. The boy fought back and was able to escape.
The boy fled to his home and contacted police.
Savary said the van was grayish-green with a small antenna on its roof. The van is a newer model but its make and model are unknown.
The suspect is described as being about 40 years old, bald, 5 feet 9 inches tall and having a long beard. The man was wearing ripped jeans and a gray shirt.
Police said the van was last seen traveling north on Middle Street. Anyone with information concerning the incident should contact Bath police at 443-5563.
