Neighbor arrested after body of girl is found

A 9-year-old Ohio girl last seen playing in the mobile home park where she lived was found dead in a nearby trash bin after a frantic search, and police on Sunday arrested a neighbor they’ve described as a family friend in the killing.

Jerrod Metsker, 24, was arrested at his home on a murder charge about 12 hours after deputies found the body of Reann Murphy near her home in Smithville, about 30 miles southwest of Akron, police said.

Metsker was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Reann was last seen Saturday night playing outside in a shared area at the mobile home park. She was reported missing after 8 p.m. and officers, firefighters and neighbors joined in the search for Reann. Her body was found around 1:35 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Governor asks for prayers for girl shot at high school

Colorado’s governor asked the nation Sunday for prayers for the 17-year-old girl who was critically wounded by a classmate at her suburban Denver high school.

Gov. John Hickenlooper also credited security procedures adopted after the 1999 massacre at nearby Columbine High School for helping put a quick end to the Arapahoe High School shooting by Karl Pierson, an 18-year-old student who shot Claire Davis at point-blank range before killing himself.

“We all have to keep Claire in our thoughts and prayers,” he told CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Davis is hospitalized at Littleton Adventist Hospital.

James Cameron to make three sequels to ‘Avatar’

Director James Cameron says he plans to make three sequels to his 2009 sci-fi blockbuster movie “Avatar” in New Zealand.

“Avatar” won three Academy Awards and is the highest grossing film in history.

Cameron says he plans to complete principal shooting on the three movies at one time, perhaps over a period of about nine months.

New Zealand’s government has agreed to a 25 percent financial rebate.

Cameron didn’t disclose an exact budget although he says he expects economies of scale will help the three movies together cost less than $1 billion.
