WEST BRADENTON, FL — Norma Van Sickle passed away on Dec. 10, 2013, at the age of 82. She was the daughter of Norman Pierce of Lisbon Falls, Maine, and Arline Youland of Bath, Maine. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath as part of the class of 1950. Over the course of her lifetime, she resided in Bath and Portland, Maine, as well as Bradenton, FL.

During her adult life Norma worked as a secretary for Hartford Mutual Insurance Company, a housekeeper for many prominent families in Bath, Maine, a dietary aide at Bath Memorial Hospital, and a childcare provider/nanny in the Portland, Maine area. A hobby that she particularly enjoyed was photography. Of all the jobs and activities she participated in over the course of her life, none were more important to her than her role as loving housewife and mother. She was particularly proud of her two sons, David and Michael. Norma was a generous woman who always put others before herself and made sacrifices for those she cared about.

Norma was a Christian who loved the Lord Jesus and has gone to be with Him. While residing in Bath, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bath, Maine, and later the Glorious Gospel Church in Topsham, Maine. While residing in the Portland area, Norma was a member of Payson Park Evangelical Free Church. She was a frequent volunteer at the “Root Cellar” children’s ministry in Portland.

Norma is survived by two sons — David

Lagasse of Houston,

Texas, and Michael Lagasse of Bath, Maine; a sister — Roberta Lortie of South Glens Falls, New York; a grandchild — Leif Paulin of San Antonio, Texas; and two great-grandchildren — Damian and Daphne Paulin of San, Antonio, Texas. Norma will not only be missed by her family, but by all those whose lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the First Evangelical Church, 355 Bridgton Road, Westbrook. Burial will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
