FARMINGTON (AP) — A plan to bring a natural gas pipeline from Jay to Farmington is getting a boost from the University of Maine at Farmington, which has formally announced its interest in becoming a customer.

Summit Natural Gas of Maine says it needs to have enough “anchor” customers lined up before committing to building the system, given the cost of the infrastructure. The Morning Sentinel reports that the university recently notified Summit that the school would like to bring natural gas to campus.

County officials have been lobbying Summit to come to the area since last year.
