CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Dimitry Akanda-Coronel scored 27 points Sunday, including three in overtime, as Maine defeated Middle Tennessee State 89-85 in the first game of the Dr. Pepper Classic.

Maine (2-9) snapped an eight-game skid and will play Chattanooga in Monday’s title game.

Akanda-Coronel opened OT with a three-pointer to give Maine a 77-74 lead. The Blue Raiders (8-5) pulled within 77-76 before Maine finished strong.

Shawn Jones hit 1 of 2 free throws to put Middle Tennessee up 74-72 with 1:43 left in regulation. Jones then blocked Troy Reid-Knight’s layup, but Maine’s Kilian Cato grabbed the rebound and scored on a dunk to tie the game at 74.

SALEM STATE 75, BATES 74: Hamed Akanni’s late jumper lifted the Vikings (7-4) over the Bobcats (6-3) in the opener of the Salem State Holiday Classic at Salem, Mass.

Bates took a 74-72 lead on a 3-pointer by Mike Boornazian with 13 seconds left. Salem State made 1 of 2 foul shots with six seconds left to cut the lead to one and got the ball back after Bates missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Graham Safford had a game-high 26 points for Bates.

ST. JOHN FISHER 77, SOUTHERN MAINE 65: Keegan Ryan scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Cardinals (4-4) past the Huskies (5-6) in the second half in their opener at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa tournament at Pittsford, N.Y.

(10) WICHITA STATE 81, DAVIDSON 70: Cleanthony Early had 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the host Shockers (13-0) extend their best start ever.

(12) OREGON 97, MORGAN ST. 76: Joseph Young scored 24 points and Oregon (12-0) won at home.

WOMEN’S GAMES

SACRED HEART 76, MAINE 75: Gabriell Washington sunk two free throws to give the Pioneers (3-8) a three-point lead with 36 seconds left and they held on to edge the Black Bears (6-6) at Fairfield, Conn.

Maine was paced by Lauren Bodine’s career-high 24 points, including 6 of 9 3-pointers.

SOUTHERN MAINE 75, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 44: Erin McNamara and Stephanie Gallagher scored 15 points apiece to pace the Huskies (7-3) as they pulled away from the Cougars (0-9) in the second half of their opening game at the Scottsdale Shootout in Scottsdale, Ariz.

BOWDOIN 71, GORDON 53: Megan Phelps scored 15 points to lead a balanced offense for the Polar Bears (11-0) in a win over the Fighting Scots (4-5) in the Land of Magic Classic at Daytona Beach, Fla.
