Gov. Paul LePage declined federal funding for MaineCare expansion, leaving thousands of Maine residents without access to affordable health insurance. The Republican Party has sabotaged the Affordable Care Act at every turn, thus ensuring continued political power.
Gov. LePage is currently reviewing alternatives to expansion such as in Arkansas and Iowa. These states have received federal approval to explore alternative health insurance for low-income individuals.
Currently, a childless single adult who falls under the poverty line is left without access to any government subsidies to obtain health insurance.
Gov. LePage and Maine House Republicans must adhere to bipartisanship and compromise with Maine House Democrats to form an effective plan of action in order to obtain available federal funding. Government officials are elected to protect and represent the voices of every citizen; as of now, they have failed us.
